Catching Spiritomb

Spiritomb is my favorite Pokemon of all time. In my first playthrough of Pearl I was completely blown away by Cynthia's usage of Spiritomb, who I had never seen before, and who (at the time) had no type disadvantage. I knew how to get the Odd Keystone, and where the Hallowed Tower was, but as I kid I simply couldn't figure out how the whole event worked.

Since then I've used and shiny hunted many Spiritomb over the years, and have the event/encounter down to a science. For this you'll need: 2 DSs and 2 copies of D/P/Pt Here are the basics.

1. Find an Odd Keystone
2. Place it in the Hallowed Tower
3. Talk to 32 People in the Underground
4. Encounter Spiritomb

Find an Odd Keystone

There are two finite locations for finding an Odd Keystone, and one repeatable method.

1. Talk to the NPC on Route 208

-He'll give you an Odd Keystone and give you a short explanation of the event.

-"Go to Route 209! Go underground! Listen to the stone pillar! Talk to people underground!"

2. Twinleaf Town

-If you have Surf, you can head back to Twinleaf Town to find another Odd Keystone within the trees in the pond.

3. Dig one up from the Underground (Repeatable)

-Very rare

Place it In the Hallowed Tower

Once you've got your Keystone, don't forget to put it in the Hallowed Tower before you head underground. The Hallowed Tower will give different messages based on how many people you've talked to underground, in case you want to keep track.

0-7 people

-"It appears to have been built many years ago."

8-14 people

-"Its stones appear to have shifted..."

15-21 people

-"...Is that crying coming from inside the tower?"

22-28 people

-"Is the tower shaking ever so slightly?"

29-31 people

-"There is some sort of presence... It appears ready to emerge!"

32+ people

-"Yulaaah!"

Talk to 32 People in the Underground

As a kid I always thought you needed to talk to 32 DIFFERENT people in the Underground, but there is actually a very simple workaround, assuming you have 2 games and 2 consoles.

1. Go to the Underground, and stand outside your secret base.
2. Get your second game to sit one tile from your secret base, so you can talk to them as soon as you exit.
3. Talk to the second game, then go into your secret base. (Contrary to popular belief, you do NOT need to close the door to decorate, you can spam A and click Leave Door Open).
4. Leave the base, come back out, and talk to the second game again.
5. Check your trainer ID. It'll keep track under "No. of People Met". Repeat until 32 people.

Encounter Spiritomb

After 32 people, you can head back up to the Hallowed Tower, save in front of it if you want, and encounter Spiritomb. You're also able to soft reset here for a shiny one. Best of luck!
